04 May 2021The social security system cannot be solely contributory: "It must have solidarity systems within it". This was stated by the general secretary of the CGIL, Maurizio Landini, recalling that a purely contributory system "does not exist in the world except in Chile". Speaking in the initiative with CISL and UIL "Changing pensions now", Landini argued that it is necessary to recognize the differences between jobs, the situation of women and young people with precarious and discontinuous jobs.

"If the Fornero law is not changed, the average age" of leaving will progressively rise to over 67 and a young man of today "risks retiring at 70", recalled Landini. Also, he said, " making rules the same for everyone when jobs are not the same for everyone is an injustice ".

The issue of pensions "can no longer be postponed. The Monti-Fornero reform turns 10 and makes clear the need to intervene. More than a reform, it was a cut requested by Europe", with a "drastic" intervention. Now we need "a real reform of the pension system". he added. "Small pieces of reforms do not exist. We are asking the government to open a debate for an overall reform of the pension system. We expect this confrontation to begin at 360 degrees, it is clear that we are asking for answers and if there will not be or should be negative, we must also jointly evaluate which initiatives we are putting in place to support the proposals and make them live in the country ", he reiterated.

Bombers; "Now economic and social sustainability"

"We have in mind a development model based on fundamental values and principles, starting from respect for life and people" and "social sustainability must be promoted alongside economic sustainability". This was underlined by the general secretary of UIL, Pierpaolo Bombardieri, closing the initiative of Cgil, Cisl and Uil to ask to "change pensions now" and provide for more flexibility on the way out. "The economic sustainability of the Fornero law does not look at the different needs and situations in the face, a dramatic mistake that we have paid for in recent years," said Bombardieri. Who has returned to point the finger also on the need to separate social security and assistance: "The Italian social security system pays for a historic, gross error:the resources for assistance and social security are not separated. Is absurd. Now finally there is a commission at work on this ".

Sbarra: "Pensions are not a luxury, you have to do it soon"

"We appreciated the opening of the Minister of Labor in wanting to start a discussion table, let's say to do it quickly. Pensions are not a luxury, they are a just recognition after a working life ". Thus the general secretary of the CISL, Luigi Sbarra, in his opening speech. "To think that after the end of Quota 100 it is possible to return without a blow to the Monti-Fornero model with a leap in the registry that for many would be 5 years means not being tuned to the reality of the country, to the real life of people", he said.

"In our opinion, at least one further intervention dedicated to women with children would be necessary: the recognition of 12 months per child to bring forward the retirement age or, at the choice of the worker, to increase the pension calculation coefficient" added Sbarra.
