French rider Fabio Quartararo, successfully operated on Tuesday after a muscle problem in his right forearm at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, is due at the French GP on May 16, his Yamaha team announced on Tuesday.

"The doctor told me that the operation for the + arm pump + (compartment syndrome, a muscle problem, editor's note) went very well. I am really looking forward to starting working on the arm this week in order to to be 100% for Le Mans, "said the pilot, on the Twitter account of his Yamaha team.

"I am very positive about my recovery and I can't wait to get back on my M1", his official Yamaha motorcycle, he continued, in a message accompanied by photos from his hospital room in Aix-en- Provence.

"We expect him to be in great shape again for the French Grand Prix," the fifth round of the season to be held May 14-16 at the Le Mans circuit, Yamaha said.

Already operated in June 2019 on the right forearm for compartment syndrome, Quartararo had "no more strength" and his arm was like "stone" on Sunday.

He then finished 13th in a race he was dominating.

The 22-year-old Frenchman is 2nd in the MotoGP World Championship, having won two out of four races.
