Munich (dpa / lby) - To commemorate the resistance groups in the Nazi dictatorship, room 3 in the Bavarian state parliament is being renamed the “White Rose Room”.

"It is important to me that we remember the resistance against the Nazi regime at the crucial place of democracy in Bavaria - the Bavarian State Parliament," said Landtag President Ilse Aigner (CSU) in Munich on Tuesday.

With the renaming of the hall, in which many committee meetings take place, the group around Sophie Scholl, Hans Scholl, Alexander Schmorell, Christoph Probst and Willi Graf will be remembered, representing various resistance groups in the Nazi dictatorship.

A commemorative plaque is to be unveiled on May 10, 2021, one day after Sophie Scholl's 100th birthday.

In the summer of 1942, the "White Rose" resistance group was formed at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.

It stood up against the war unleashed by Adolf Hitler and against the terror of National Socialism.

The Scholl siblings were sentenced to death for their service in the resistance group and executed in Munich on February 22, 1943.
