People vaccinated against the coronavirus in Germany will no longer be required to test negative to enter stores and will be able to meet in private without restrictions, the Minister of Justice announced on Tuesday.

"Vaccinated people will no longer need a negative test if they want to go shopping, go to the hairdresser or visit a botanical garden, for example," Christine Lambrecht said in a statement, outlining the restrictions lifted for people vaccinated.

Almost 7 million Germans fully vaccinated

According to a text adopted Tuesday by the government and which still has to be adopted at the end of the week by the parliament, the vaccinated people will be able to "meet in private without restrictions", added the minister. The recently introduced nighttime curfew from 10 p.m. will also no longer apply to people who have received two doses of the vaccine. The lower house of parliament, the Bundestag, will vote on this text on Thursday and the Bundesrat, the upper house, on Friday. In the event of adoption, these relaxations could enter into force as of this weekend.

More than 6.7 million people had received the two doses on Monday and nearly 24 million one dose, according to the Robert Koch Institute.

Germany, hit hard by a third epidemic wave this winter, has for several months adopted many restrictions, from the closure of bars, restaurants, cultural venues and sports venues, to the closure of non-essential stores, the drastic limitation of meetings private or even a nighttime curfew.

No schedule for the reopening of the premises

Unlike many European countries, the government has not yet presented a timetable for the reopening of these places. “We had to restrict basic rights during the health crisis to protect life and health. It was extremely painful for me as Minister of Justice ”, underlined Christine Lambrecht. "I have also always said that fundamental rights must be restored as soon as their restriction is no longer justified", added the Social Democratic Minister.

"The drop in infection rates and the fact that more and more people are being vaccinated make me confident that we can move quickly to other stages of opening," she concludes, stressing however that " the pandemic is not yet over ”.

Germany thus had 3,433,516 officially declared cases of Covid-19 (+7,534 in 24 hours) and 83,591 deaths (+315) on Tuesday.
