May 04, 2021 There are 3,206,707 deaths worldwide and 153,093,196 confirmed cases of coronavirus globally, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The most affected country is the United States with 32,459,810 infections and 577,462 victims. If in India 20 million cases and 218,959 deaths have been exceeded since the beginning of the pandemic, in Brazil the total infections amount to 14,754,910 and touch 407,639 deaths.

India exceeds the threshold of 20 million infections

India has exceeded 20 million infections from Covid-19, after recording another 357,229 cases in the last 24 hours. This was reported by the Ministry of Health, which thus updates the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 20.3 million. There were 3,449 new deaths for a total of 222,408. India has become the second nation in the world, after the United States, to cross the dramatic threshold of 20 million infections: in just four months, 10 million new cases have been registered in the Asian country.

Despite the tragic situation, with the health system in collapse, the Indian authorities have pointed out that infections have been in significant decline since April 30, when the official bulletin had marked for the first time over 400,000 cases in 24 hours. However, experts believe that the official number of infections and deaths is underestimated.
