Malchin (dpa / mv) - The districts of Rostock and Mecklenburg Lake District have initially failed with the plan to issue new common rules for sailing on the Malchiner See with boats.

As the Seenplatte district announced on Tuesday, an objection was lodged against the general decree in question, which only came into force on March 19.

The contradiction comes from the environmental association BUND, which for years has been calling for stricter rules, especially for boats with internal combustion engines on water.

This objection has suspensive effect, which is why the order has not become final, it said from the district. This means that the old regulations, according to which boat owners with special permits may continue to use their boats, now apply again. The Malchiner See is about eight kilometers long and lies on the territory of both districts. The country had imposed on the districts to issue uniform driving rules.

The new decree stipulated that boats with small combustion engines and electric motors were allowed to sail on the lake as before.

Water skis, jet skis or other high-powered watercraft should remain prohibited.

A permit under water law and water traffic law should be submitted for commercial passenger shipping or boat rental.

Malchin's Mayor Axel Müller (CDU) regretted that the environmental association is taking action against the jointly developed regulation.
