At least 15 people were killed in Mexico City after a subway viaduct partially collapsed on Monday evening (local time) and subway cars fell.

The head of government of the Mexican capital, Claudia Sheinbaum, came directly to the scene of the accident.

She said that about 70 people had been injured, 34 of whom had to be taken to hospital.

Although she says it is clear that a support beam has broken, the exact cause of the accident is still being investigated.

According to the fire brigade and police, people are still trapped in the subway machines that have fallen down.

Rescuers find it difficult to free them, as there is a chance that the viaduct will collapse even further.
