Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that one of their priorities is to preserve the territorial integrity of Libya, while his Libyan counterpart Najla Al-Manqoush expressed her hope for Turkey's cooperation to end the presence of foreign forces in her country.
In a joint press conference held today, Monday, in the capital, Tripoli, Çavuşolu said that the talks touched upon the joint maritime agreement and what measures can be taken towards it, in addition to economic relations and the return of Turkish companies to Libya and investment in it.
The Turkish guest expressed his happiness to visit Libya, accompanied by Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and Head of the Intelligence Service, Hakan Fidan.
He stressed that the "high" delegation's visit to Tripoli comes as an affirmation of support for Libya, its government and people, pointing to the historical ties between the two countries, which span more than 500 years.
He added: We always stood by the Libyan people and their legitimate government, which called on some countries, including Turkey, to confront the attacks that targeted the capital, Tripoli, but Ankara is the only one that responded to the invitation.
For its part, Manqoush called on Turkey to cooperate with regard to the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, including the removal of foreign forces and mercenaries in support of Libya's sovereignty.
Al-Manqoush praised Turkey's support for the health sector in her country to confront the Coronavirus pandemic, stressing the Government of National Unity's keenness to establish distinguished relations with Ankara in the interest of both parties.
Turkey had deployed forces in Libya to support the former Government of National Accord in its fight against the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar, and the two countries concluded two memoranda, one security and the other related to the demarcation of the maritime borders in November 2019.
