China News Service, April 30. According to the Russian Satellite Network citing a report from the Palestinian News Agency, on April 29 local time, Palestinian President Abbas announced that he would postpone the general election originally scheduled to begin on May 22.

According to reports, Abbas stated that “because Israel refused to approve the holding of elections in East Jerusalem, the Palestinian leadership decided to postpone the elections originally scheduled for May 22.”

Abbas said in a statement, "We will not give up our rights to Jerusalem and the rights of the people of Jerusalem to exercise their legitimate democratic rights."

According to previous reports, Abbas signed a presidential decree in January to determine the timetable for holding a general election.

The Palestinian Legislative Council elections, the presidential elections and the Palestinian National Council elections will be held on May 22, July 31, and August 31, respectively.

Election voting will be held in all administrative districts of Pakistan, including East Jerusalem.

Hannah Nasser, chairman of the Palestinian Central Election Commission, once expressed the hope that Israel would allow Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem to vote.

United Nations Secretary-General Guterres then welcomed this, saying that the elections in all the administrative districts of Palestine, including East Jerusalem, would be a key step in Palestinian unity.
