In the summer of 2020, the Swedish Transport Agency was commissioned by the government to produce proposals on how to overcome the dangerous snowmobile driving.

Now that the government is submitting proposals for the risk day, it is with a focus on education and driving licenses:

- We are proceeding with training from July this year, which will then be a requirement for a driver's license, says Tomas Eneroth.

The training is similar to that required to obtain a driving license for a car, with both theoretical and practical exercise.

In addition, it must be possible to revoke a driving license in the event of, for example, sea drunkenness.

The government wants the drivers of the jet skis to be checked by the police and the Coast Guard.

Several accidents with jet skis were brought to attention in 2020, something that caused canoe associations and authorities to sound the alarm, among other things.

Kristoffer Lindström works as a lessor of, among other things, jet skis in Örnsköldsvik, he welcomes the requirement for a driver's license:

- If you look at how many accidents there have been, it may be the only way out, even if it would mean that we can rent to fewer people.

I think the biggest problem is that it has become so hugely popular with jet skis, the more people who drive, the greater the risk of accidents.
