Tübingen (dpa) - Tübingen's Lord Mayor Boris Palmer has requested German emergency approval for the corona vaccine produced by the Curevac company in the city of Baden-Württemberg.

«Curevac produced vaccine in stock.

Now these cans could save lives, ”said the Green politician of the“ Augsburger Allgemeine ”(Friday).

Palmer criticized the EU for “forever” for approval.

"The sham security of bureaucratic checks is placed above the real security of a vaccine."

And: "When should emergency approval make sense if not in the third wave of this pandemic?" Asked the politician.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) started the rapid testing procedure in February.

Depending on the clinical data, the company expects approval for the EU in the second quarter of 2021. Curevac wants to be able to use its corona vaccine from June onwards.

So far, the vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer, Astrazeneca, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson have been approved in the EU.
