Ruppichteroth (dpa / lnw) - A motorcyclist was killed in a serious traffic accident on Monday in Ruppichteroth in the eastern Rhein-Sieg district.

For unclear reasons, the biker drove into oncoming traffic on a straight stretch of the federal highway 478, said the police in Siegburg.

There the man collided head-on with a truck, which caught fire as a result of the impact.

The rescue workers could only determine the death of the motorcyclist.

The 41-year-old driver of the truck loaded with axles was seriously injured and flown to a clinic.

The federal highway 478 had to be closed in the area, about 20 kilometers from Siegburg, for the accident recording and the clearing of rubble.

The identity of the motorcyclist was initially unclear.
