Langeoog (dpa / lni) - According to Langeoog's island mayor, Heike Horn (independent), the pilot project to open up tourism and the hospitality industry on the East Frisian Islands is off the table in its previously planned form.

That was the result of a round of talks by Lower Saxony's Health Minister Daniela Behrens and Environment Minister Olaf Lies (both SPD) and the seven island mayors on Monday.

"There will be a pandemic regulation that applies to the whole of Lower Saxony, where there will be no exception for the islands," said Horn of the German press agency after the round of talks.

Nevertheless, central points of the concept, such as a comprehensive test strategy and a digital contact tracking system, should be used in future opening steps.

The concept was considered “very good” by all sides, said Horn.

But it is not implemented one-to-one.

Rather, the details of a new Corona regulation, which is to be presented to the state government on Tuesday after a cabinet meeting, would have to be awaited.

Environment Minister Olaf Lies said after the discussion, referring to the elements of the island's opening concept: “I am convinced that a large part of it will also be found in the next ordinance and certainly also in the following ordinances that we still work on. "

What possible openings in island tourism could look like was initially unclear on Monday.

"It will now be done in small steps," said Horn.

As a first step, for example, it is conceivable that the outdoor and indoor restaurants will be opened with corresponding guidelines similar to the previous year.

However, this must be done "carefully" so that the islands are not "overrun".
