Turkish media said that a Turkish diplomatic delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sadat Onal will visit the Egyptian capital, Cairo, to discuss bilateral relations.
Reports stated that this visit is the first of its kind in terms of relations between the two countries, after the tension that it has known in recent years, and comes as a continuation of their efforts to normalize relations.
For his part, spokesman for Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party, Omar Celik, said that his country is working on forming new mechanisms to discuss its issues with Egypt.
Celik indicated - in a press statement he made today, Monday - that the visit of the Turkish delegation to Egypt is separate from the visit that a high-ranking delegation led by the Turkish foreign and defense ministers is conducting to the Libyan capital, Tripoli.
"The issue of Egypt should not be merged with Libya. Regarding Egypt, we are working on forming new mechanisms to discuss the issues between us," the spokesman said.
"A delegation is heading to Egypt, headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, to develop possible mechanisms to discuss issues, especially the eastern Mediterranean and natural gas in the eastern Mediterranean, so the visit to Egypt is separate from the visit to Libya, and there is no direct relationship between them," he said.
Earlier, Turkish Trade Minister Mehmet Muş expressed his country's desire to improve trade and economic relations with Egypt, in parallel with diplomatic relations.
