Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Despite temporary school closings and limited daycare, parents in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania applied for child sickness benefits significantly less often in the first quarter than a year earlier, according to the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK).

At the cash register, 35 percent fewer applications were received, as announced on Monday.

Nationwide, the number of child health benefit applications rose by 27 percent, while in the new federal states there were consistently declines.

The health insurance company did not give any reasons for this.

Last year, TK in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania received more than 9,000 applications for child sickness benefit in the first three months, according to the information it was now just under 6,000 in comparison to the other federal states the application was made the least.

It is intended to help parents who cannot work due to school and daycare closings in the corona pandemic.

As a rule, it amounts to 90 percent of the lost net wage and is granted for every statutory insured child up to the age of twelve.

Currently 30 days of childhood illness can be taken per parent, 60 days for single parents.
