Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Museum Dresden, the Landesbühnen Sachsen and Schloss Seifersdorf are planning an exhibition and concert performances of the composer's romantic opera in authentic locations for the 200th anniversary of the premiere of the "Freischütz".

From August 28 to December 21, the origins and reception of the work under National Socialism and in the GDR will be examined, as the organizers announced on Monday.

According to their statements, Dresden and the surrounding area are considered to be the nucleus of the work that was staged on June 18, 1821 in the Berlin theater.

The Saxon Prime Minister Carl Garf von Brühl, then director of the Royal Theater in Berlin, had commissioned the opera from Carl Maria von Weber, who had been Royal Kapellmeister in Dresden since 1817. The libretto for this was written at his summer residence, which is now the museum. The "Freischütz" was long regarded as the German National Opera and also inspired Richard Wagner to pursue his career as a composer.

The Jägeroper with cast free balls was the last performance before the Semperoper was destroyed in 1945 - and the first with which the rebuilt theater was opened in 1985.

In 1950 the Dresden State Opera celebrated its first premiere in the new house in Radebeul and every year since the summer of 1956 Max and Kaspar have been wrestling for Agathe's hand on the Rathen Rock Stage, a natural theater in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains - in the Wehlgrund as an authentic backdrop to the Wolfsschlucht.
