03 May 2021At least thirty civilians killed and another 15 injured are the toll of an attack carried out by armed men in the village of Kodyel, in the province of Komandjari in eastern Burkina Faso. Local media reports on social media, talking about a jihadist attack.



According to security sources cited by the infowakat.net website, gunmen stormed the village of Kodyel at dawn. In addition to the killing of thirty civilians, twenty people were injured in the attack.



Arriving around 5 am, the attackers surrounded the village before starting to set fire to the houses one by one to force people to leave. Once they left their homes, people were shot dead.



According to information received by infowakat.net, the armed groups accuse the victims, mainly from the Gourmantché community, of allowing their children to enlist as Homeland Defense Volunteers (Vdp).



According to reports from local sources and the security forces, "a large number of armed people attacked the village of Kodyel, killing several dozen civilians," the source in the regional security forces said. Another source from a local self-defense group confirmed the attack, adding that at least "20 to 30" people were killed.
