Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - With a demand for 4.5 percent more money for the approximately 230,000 employees in the Hessian retail and mail order business, the Verdi union is entering the upcoming collective bargaining round.

During the first negotiations on May 12, employers would be asked to "pay up", the service union announced on Monday in Frankfurt.

For employees at fresh food counters, supermarket checkouts or information centers, Verdi is demanding a monthly fixed amount of 45 euros in addition to a salary increase of 4.5 percent.

In addition, the minimum wage for the lower wage groups is to rise to 12.50 euros per hour.

The Hesse trade association initially did not comment on the upcoming negotiations.
