Rosenheim (dpa / lby) - A 16-year-old is in custody after a suspected knife attack in Rosenheim.

According to the investigators' findings, the youngster seriously injured a 20-year-old in downtown Rosenheim with several stitches, the police said on Monday.

The victim, who was traveling with a 15-year-old girl, was taken to hospital late on Saturday evening after the attack.

It was only due to chance that he survived, it was said.

The police started a manhunt and first arrested an 18-year-old companion of the alleged perpetrator at his private address.

On Sunday morning, officials arrested the suspect, who had initially fled, in the Rosenheim city area.

The 18-year-old companion is now at large again, and the 16-year-old has been issued an arrest warrant on suspicion of an attempted homicide.

The background to the crime was initially unclear.
