The police charged the 49-year-old assailant Jarrod Powell with two felony assault and one count of attempted murder.
The victim, Mayaopan, was attacked in Manhattan’s East Harlem on April 23.
Surveillance video released by the police last week showed that Mayaopan was attacked by a man from behind. The attacker knocked him down and kicked him on the head several times.
