Family and sexual violence on the rise

Last January, we already learned that a 9% increase in domestic violence had taken place last year, in particular because of the confinements and other restrictions imposed to fight against Covid-19.

We now know that these victims of domestic violence are 85% women.

As for the authors, they are mainly men (87%).

Outside the family, two thirds of the victims of assault and battery are men.

In addition, sexual violence also increased significantly in 2020. Regarding rape, the authorities recorded an increase of 11%.

This figure can be explained in particular by the greater freedom of speech by victims and the fact that they lodge more complaints.

More than half of the victims of sexual violence are also minors.

Almost 20% decrease in violent thefts without weapons

As the population stayed more at home last year, certain forms of delinquency are in sharp decline.

This is the case with burglaries and therefore with facts that usually occur on public roads.

For example, there has been an almost 20% decrease in violent thefts without weapons.

45% of these are committed by minors, as are vehicle thefts.
