April 29, 2021 An Egyptian documentary that puts the figure of Giulio Regeni in a bad light appeared yesterday on Youtube in a channel called The story of Giulio Regeni, which is also associated with a Facebook page. The three-part film, which lasts 50 minutes, is presented as "the first documentary that reconstructs the movements of Giulio Regeni in Cairo". The video is in Arabic with Italian subtitles. The documentary is studded with even gross errors such as the name of Regeni himself who is crippled and reports facts already known, but whose reconstruction seems to want to discredit the researcher and argue that the authorities of the Cairo are unrelated to Giulio's torture to death.

All this on the eve of the first preliminary hearing, before the GUP of Rome, which today sees 5 defendants belonging to the Egyptian secret services accused of the kidnapping, torture and killing of the young Italian researcher.

Palazzotto: "Disgraceful documentary is serious misdirection"

"On the eve of the preliminary hearing of the trial for the four 007 Egyptians accused of the killing of Giulio Regeni, a shameful documentary of unknown production appears which once again tarnishes Giulio's memory. Yet another unacceptable attempt at misdirection". Erasmo Palazzotto, President of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the death of Giulio Regeni, writes in a note. "It is very serious that Italian politicians and soldiers have lent themselves to this ignoble operation. It is serious that Gasparri has discredited not only on Giulio Regeni but on his own country, in fact justifying the outrages received by our magistrates from the Egyptian side.shadow of this story - underlines Palazzotto -. But feeding the culture of suspicion, continuing to make allusions about Cambridge without any evidence, contributes to divert attention from the Cairo where Giulio Regeni was killed and where his torturers and murderers are still unpunished today ".
