“I cannot understand how the administration can think that if the sanctions are lifted and the campaign of pressure on the Iranians is lifted, they will behave in accordance with international norms,” Pompeo quoted Al Arabiya as saying.
In his opinion, he does not know how the softening of the tough course towards Iran, which, according to the former head of the State Department, is responsible for supporting the Yemeni Houthis, may end.
Pompeo also added that the administration of US President Joe Biden removed the Houthis from the list of foreign terrorist organizations "not because they ceased to be terrorists, but because they did not want to appease Ayatollah."
He also stressed that "the Iranians may take this as a sign of weakness."
According to Associated Press sources, the US administration is considering easing some of the toughest sanctions against Iran to bring the Islamic Republic back into compliance with the JCPOA.
