Stuttgart (dpa) - The lateral thinking movement has criticized its partial observation by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

The authority had "obviously problems in its political coordinate system," said the protest movement lateral thinking 711 on Thursday night.

The participants in the demonstrations belonged to the middle class, were “neither right-wing nor left-wing extremists, criminals or terrorists”.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior announced on Wednesday that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution was observing individual actors and parts of the Corona protest movement nationwide using intelligence services.

The reason for this is the "constitutional protection-relevant delegitimization of the state" that they pursue.

The Stuttgart-based group “lateral thinking 711” is regarded as a kind of nucleus of the protest movement that is now active nationwide.

Since there was apparently no classification for "peacefully demonstrating citizens" that would have justified observation, this new category had to be "invented", the group explained.

This opens up the possibility for the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution to observe "all critical and mature citizens who insist on their basic, freedom and defense rights vis-à-vis the state".

The President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Thomas Haldenwang, told the dpa that mere criticism of corona measures is not a reason for observation.

He emphasized that «our interest here is not about a critical attitude of protesters towards the state measures, but the attacks on our democracy».

An "increasing radicalization of some actors was noted".
