China News Service, April 29. According to a report by the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), on April 28 local time, the Japan Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission approved the Tokyo Electric Power Company's nuclear reactor waste plan for the Fukushima Second Nuclear Power Plant.

According to reports, TEPCO has formulated a waste reactor plan for the four nuclear reactors of Fukushima No. 2 Nuclear Power Plant Units 1 to 4, which will be submitted to the Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission for approval in May 2020.

The main contents of this plan are: it will take 44 years for the waste reactor operation to start; it will take 22 years for a total of about 10,000 spent fuel rods to be removed from the spent fuel pool. After the spent fuel rods will be handed over to the relevant enterprises for processing, Reuse it as a fuel; it is estimated that the waste pile operation will produce about 50,000 tons of radioactive waste; in addition to the spent fuel treatment, it is estimated that the waste pile operation will cost about 280 billion yen.

The Fukushima No. 2 Nuclear Power Plant is located about 12 kilometers south of the Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant where the nuclear accident occurred.

TEPCO announced in 2019 that it will treat the nuclear reactor of the Fukushima No. 2 Nuclear Power Plant as a waste reactor.

In view of the approval of the waste reactor plan of the nuclear power plant, TEPCO stated that it will determine the start time of waste reactor operations based on the understanding of the local people in the future.

The report pointed out that it is a matter of concern whether TEPCO can simultaneously promote the waste reactors of Fukushima No. 1 and No. 2 nuclear power plants as planned.
