Hamburg (dpa) - The optician chain Fielmann is driving expansion in Europe.

The first branch in the Czech Republic is to open in the capital Prague in June.

20 branches are planned in the neighboring country by 2025, as CEO Marc Fielmann announced on Thursday in Hamburg.

Fielmann acquired the leading optician chain Optika Clarus in Slovenia in 2019 and 80 percent of the third largest optician chain in Spain, Óptica & Audiología Universitaria, in 2020.

With the Czech Republic, Fielmann will then be active in 16 countries across Europe.

Fielmann described the Czech market as very interesting because eyewear there, despite the below-average purchasing power compared to other European countries, has so far been more expensive than average.

Fielmann is also keeping a keen eye on France, where the optician chain has not yet been present.

"If necessary, we can act very quickly," said Fielmann, referring to Europe's second largest economy.
