Erfurt / Eisenberg (dpa / th) - The third attempt by the Thuringian FDP to re-elect its board with Thomas Kemmerich at the top has also failed.

The party convention planned for this Saturday and Sunday in Eisenberg had to be canceled, said FDP General Secretary Robert-Martin on Thursday in Erfurt.

The reason are new requirements of the health department to contain the corona pandemic, according to which the number of participants would have to be limited to 50.

The FDP planned with around 150 participants and repeatedly adjusted its hygiene concepts.

"We can not just unload delegates at an election party conference," justified Monday the decision that was made on Wednesday evening in the board.

According to him, the Thuringian Liberals originally wanted to elect their party executive in November 2020.

This appointment was canceled due to the corona as well as an appointment in March and now the beginning of May.

When exactly the party congress will be rescheduled has not yet been determined.

«Probably in mid-June.

The planning is now starting again, ”said Monday.

The FDP had already canceled the election of its Bundestag candidates planned for this Sunday after the party congress on Wednesday because of the corona requirements.

The state list for the federal election on September 26th will probably not be set up until mid-June, said state manager Tim Wagner.

We are talking about June 12th or 13th.

The first place on the list for the federal election is contested in the FDP: three candidates made it clear before the representatives' meeting that they would run.

In addition to the FDP member of the Bundestag Gerald Ullrich, the former FDP general secretary Patrick Kurth and Jan Siegemund from Erfurt have announced that they are applying for first place.

Besides Ullrich, Thuringia's liberals currently have two members of the Bundestag, Reginald Hanke from East Thuringia.
