Munich / Cologne (dpa) - Andreas Maus from Cologne is one of the winners of the euward art prize, endowed with around 19,000 euros, for painting and graphics in the context of intellectual disabilities.

The jury praised the work of the artist, who with his distinctive drawing style constantly revolves around the excesses of the Nazi dictatorship and the Second World War.

The Basel-born runner-up Felix Brenner, on the other hand, repeatedly prepares a flood of biographical photo and image documents on wall-filling pictures, as the Augustinum Foundation announced in Munich on Thursday. Kar Hang Mui, who comes from the Dutch city of Goes, uses razor-sharp colored pencils to apply layer upon layer of the entire sheet so carefully that not a single piece of paper shimmers through and the colored areas come to life.

This year, the euward has been awarded for the eighth time since 2000 and, according to the foundation, is the most important award for art in the context of intellectual disabilities.

This year more than 340 applications were submitted from all over Europe.

In addition to the exhibition of their works in Munich's Haus der Kunst, the winners will receive cash prizes and a catalog with a total value of around 19,000 euros.
