April 29, 2021 Euronext announced that it has completed the acquisition of Borsa Italiana for a final value of € 4.444 billion, after all the conditions previously set have been met.

The initial value was 4.325 billion.

As stated in a note from Euronext, Cdp Equity and Intesa Sanpaolo become part of Euronext's main shareholders through the signing of a private placement for 579 million euros, with a long-term commitment to support the growth ambitions of the group.

Thus was born the main pan-European market infrastructure and the largest headquarters in Europe for listing and secondary markets for debt and equity financing.

Euronext has decided to transfer the group's main data center from London to Bergamo and for this reason a contract has been signed with Aruba. "It is a clear signal of the role and investments that Euronext intends to reserve for Italy", said Euronext's chief executive, Stephane Boujnah, during the conference call to comment on the completion of the acquisition of Borsa Italiana. The first part of the migration, subject to the approval of the authorities and operational aspects, is set for 2022.

The transfer, explained the CEO, was decided in response to multiple factors, first of all the acquisition of Borsa Italiana, but also the dynamics created by Brexit and a strong desire to locate the main data center of the group in a country where Euronext has large businesses. The migration was designed to be ready for the passage of the Italian Stock Exchange markets on the Optiq trading platform by 2023.
