Dresden (dpa) - Despite the corona pandemic, the mood in East German companies improved slightly in April.

The business climate index rose from 94.9 in the previous month to 95.9 points, as the Ifo Institute announced on Thursday in Dresden.

Both the assessments of the current business situation and the expectations for the coming months have improved somewhat.

In industry, the climate cooled somewhat.

Decisive for this are the clouding business prospects, while the current business was assessed somewhat better than in the previous month.

The mood in East German retail had improved slightly, but the information on this was divided: While the business climate in the retail sector improved significantly, it cooled noticeably in the wholesale sector.

According to the Ifo Institute, the location and prospects for the construction were assessed as slightly improved.

The Ifo business climate for East Germany is based on around 1700 monthly reports from companies in various industries.

You are asked to assess your current business situation and share your expectations for the next six months.

The Ifo index is a leading indicator for the economy.
