Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The state data protection officer and the Ministry of Culture see responsibility for the use of the controversial learning platform MS 365 in the future state government.

They agreed on this in Stuttgart on Thursday after the top data protection officer Stefan Brink had explained his criticism of the software.

After a pilot project accompanied by Brink at more than 30 vocational schools and high schools, he rejects the use of the US product in Southwest schools.

He justifies this with a lack of data protection for teachers, students and parents.

24 education associations recently rejected an introduction. The vocational school teachers, on the other hand, demanded a data protection-compliant solution for further use of MS 365. Both open source products and licensed software are required to fulfill their educational mandate.

Microsoft countered the concerns of the majority of the associations.

"Data protection has the highest priority for Microsoft," emphasized a spokeswoman.

Microsoft Office 365 can be used in accordance with the German data protection rules.

Every school should be able to provide its teachers and students with secure digital solutions.

"We are ready to work out constructive and legally secure solutions together with those responsible for education and will continue the dialogue on all technical and data protection requirements with German educational institutions and supervisory authorities."

Parents, teachers and students should not be unnecessarily unsettled by the public debate.
