New measures, new reports and highlights: an update on the latest developments in the Covid-19 pandemic around the world.

- New death record in India -

India recorded 3,645 new deaths from Covid-19 on Thursday, 350 more than the day before, a new record for this country severely hit by a second epidemic wave, according to the Ministry of Health.

The United States announced on Wednesday the emergency dispatch of more than $ 100 million of equipment to fight Covid-19 to India.

- 10% positive on an India-Italy flight -

About 10% of passengers and crew on a plane that arrived in Rome from India on Wednesday evening have tested positive for Covid-19, the health official for Lazio, the region encompassing the Italian capital, announced.

All positive people and contact cases were taken to specialized structures, "Covid-hotels", where they were placed in isolation.

- Warning from WHO -

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned Europe about easing restrictions, saying "the situation in India can happen anywhere".

The major health crisis that India is currently going through may have its origin in the so-called Indian variant of the coronavirus, but also in certain behaviors such as non-compliance with health restrictions, the WHO has advanced.

- Vaccine for 12-15 year olds in the EU?

The German laboratory BioNTech is about to file in the European Union an authorization request for the use of its vaccine against Covid-19 in children from 12 to 15 years old, making possible an approval from June.

In the United States, BioNTech and its partner Pfizer have already filed in early April a request to extend the emergency authorization of the vaccine to adolescents aged 12 to 15 years.

- Moderna wants to produce three billion doses in 2022 -

Moderna intends to invest in its manufacturing lines to be able to produce up to three billion doses of its Covid-19 vaccine in 2022.

The American laboratory, which has developed a vaccine based on innovative messenger RNA technology like Pfizer / BioNTech, has also revised upwards its expectations for 2021 and now hopes to be able to provide between 800 million and 1 billion doses this year.

- Sinovac vaccine delivered for the Copa América -

The 50,000 doses of the Chinese anti-Covid vaccine Sinovac, intended to immunize players, coaches and referees for the Copa America (June 13 - July 10), arrived in Uruguay on Wednesday.

- More than 3.13 million dead -

The pandemic has killed at least 3,152,646 people around the world since December 2019, according to a report established by AFP from official sources, Thursday at 10:00 GMT.

The United States has the highest death toll (574,329) followed by Brazil (398,185), Mexico (215,918), India (204,832) and the United Kingdom (127,480).

Among the hardest hit countries, Hungary is the one that deplores the highest number of deaths in relation to its population.

These figures are globally underestimated.

They are based on daily reports from national health authorities, without including reassessments based on statistical bases.
