China analyst on interview: "Sees itself as a winner"

Jerker Hellström is not surprised by the answers given by Gui Congyou, China's Swedish Ambassador, in the program.

- He gives the answers he has the mandate to give.

If you had asked another Chinese diplomat, it is likely that you would have received the same answer, he says.

- The message is that there is nothing happening in Xinjiang that is not for anyone but for anyone other than terrorists, and the message about Gui Minhai is that he is not a Swedish citizen and he is thus not a matter for Sweden to deal with.

Jerker Hellström, who has not seen the Chinese media report on the interview afterwards, believes that neither the embassy nor the authorities in Beijing take any account of the reactions in Sweden.

- That you can see a sharp deterioration for a number of years in the view of China, in Sweden and in other countries, I do not think you care so much about actually, he says.
