Green Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock has joined the demands for a term limit for the chancellorship. "We should also look at the limitation of the term of office of a chancellor," Baerbock told the "Spiegel".

The time limit for the chancellorship should be part of a comprehensive parliamentary reform, said the Greens chairwoman - "A different type of leadership is needed," said Baerbock. The Greens therefore wanted to strengthen the parliament's control and participation rights vis-à-vis the government.

Parliament should be downsized and the voting age should be reduced to 16 years. A debate about the extension of the legislative period also appears to Baerbock "sensible". This must then go hand in hand with a strengthening of direct participation opportunities, such as through citizens' councils.

Baerbock refers to the current election campaign, in which Angela Merkel does not run again. You can see how much movement there is "when, for the first time in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany, all parties are challenged to dare something new because no incumbent chancellor will run again," she told the magazine. That could bring new momentum.

Recently there had been calls from the Union for a limitation of the term of office of the Chancellor and the FDP also wants to take part in the federal election campaign with the demand for a term of office for the Chancellor.
