Potsdam (dpa / bb) - In Brandenburg, company insolvencies have again decreased significantly despite the Corona crisis.

The local courts received 328 procedural requests last year, as the Ministry of Economics in Potsdam announced in response to a request from the Left parliamentary group.

That was 54 fewer cases than the year before, and 90 fewer than in 2018.

This means that the number of insolvency proceedings applied for has fallen for the fourth year in a row.

In 2016, 522 insolvency proceedings against companies were received by the local courts.

232 procedures were opened last year.

An application to open bankruptcy was rejected 96 times due to lack of assets, as the debtor's assets were insufficient to cover the costs of the proceedings.

Most bankruptcies occurred with 49 companies in the construction industry.

47 cases were registered in the trade, maintenance and vehicle repair sector, 46 in other economic services. The fewest insolvencies occurred in the water supply, waste disposal and pollution control sectors.

Here 2 companies went bankrupt, 3 were in the field of education and teaching.

The ministry refers to information from the statistical office, according to which the changed economic framework conditions caused by the corona crisis have significantly delayed the bankruptcy process.

The support measures granted to the companies by the federal and state governments as well as the suspension of the obligation to apply for insolvency proceedings have also contributed to this.

With the state aid measures that came into force in March 2020, the obligation to apply for insolvent companies was suspended until the end of September.

This regulation applies to over-indebted companies until the end of April 2021. Leading economic experts assume that a significant increase in company bankruptcies can be expected nationwide this year.

According to the ministry, of the total of 193 bankruptcy applications in the first two quarters of the previous year, around 60 percent came from companies that had existed for less than eight years.
