Bremerhaven (dpa) - After the playoff in the German ice hockey league, the Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven announced the farewell to seven players on Thursday.

Maxime Fortunus, Tomas Pöpperle, Cory Quirk, Christian Hilbrich, Carson McMillan, Tomas Sykora and Luca Gläser will leave the club or end their careers, the North Germans announced in a press release.

The end of the career of 37-year-old defender Maxime Fortunus, who for family reasons does not want to play in Europe again next season, is particularly painful for the penguins.

“Every single one of us helped to ensure that we were able to follow a successful sporting path this year too,” said team manager Alfred Prey.

The Bremerhaven team only narrowly failed in the playoff quarter-finals on Saturday at the Grizzlys Wolfsburg.
