A seven-month-old baby has reportedly died of malnutrition, following a vegan diet, his 28-year-old mother declared "to follow the Bible."
The baby's mother, Clara, said she was following the Bible so that her month-old little one, Kameri Garriques, would not be "a fat boy" as she held the holy book of Christians in her hand and pointed to it, in turn, with the other.
"Vegan means everything in this Bible
," the woman said during an interview at her home in the residential neighborhood of St. Albans, in the southeastern Queens district of New York City, when asked by the newspaper.
New York Post.
The boy was found
unconscious
last October
by Police officers
after receiving an emergency call from 911 and the NYPD said the
Medical Examiner's Office
ruled the case a
homicide
and that Kameri was suspected of being malnourished.
At the moment, the mother, who has three other children, is not formally charged but, according to police sources, she has been subjected to various interrogations.
"Fifteen policemen were against me ... They took my daughter in November, they took her a week after" [Kameri's death], he told the aforementioned newspaper.
"Why are you trying to find out what God does?"
Carla asked, in addition to quoting the Bible.
Kameri
"was fed vegan because with all the formulas, I tried six different ones, he was getting thrush (a yeast infection in the mouth) each time."
One of her other children,
a 2-year-old girl, has been placed under the protection
of Social Affairs, considering the social workers that she could be in danger.
"I tried to escape and they took my daughter because they felt my daughter was at risk from the fact that my son died," Carla said.
The woman defended the food she had provided her son.
"He was not fed nonsense. He was not fed formula containing chemicals," he said just as
he had not followed the vaccination card
prescribed for children since birth.
Carla who lives in a family home with her mother in the St. Albans neighborhood has decided to move.
Her mother believes that Carla
"is going through something," she
told reporters quietly.
"Our top priority is to protect the safety and well-being of all children in New York City. We are investigating this case with the NYPD and have taken steps to ensure the safety of the other child in this home," they said from the department in charge of Social Affairs.
