Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The traffic turnaround in Brandenburg is to accompany a dialogue between the state government and the popular initiative - the coalition factions passed a resolution on this in the state parliament on Thursday.

The Left parliamentary group also supported the motion, the AfD parliamentary group voted against it, and the BVB / Free Voters parliamentary group abstained.

The Kenya coalition wants to strengthen cycling, local public transport and walking with a mobility law.

This includes promoting the environmental network consisting of local public transport, cycling and walking, achieving climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest, and increasing the environmental network share of transport to 60 percent by 2030.

To this end, she agreed with the representatives of the successful popular initiative for a green transport turnaround to work out the law together in a dialogue process by 2024.

With a view to the negotiated dialogue with the state government, the initiators want to refrain from initiating a referendum.

The Landtag Committee for Transport had formally rejected the “Verkehrswende” popular initiative because the governing coalition did not accept the initiators' demands unchanged. It was clear that the entire demands would overburden the country financially and that prioritization would therefore be necessary, explained the transport policy spokesman for the CDU in the state parliament, Julian Brüning. More important, however, is the content-related compromise package and the agreed dialogue process, said the transport politician of the Green parliamentary group, Clemens Rostock. "Brandenburg is getting a mobility law with specific measures."

The popular initiative had presented a catalog of ten points, in which the proportion of local public transport should be doubled by 2035, the expansion of regional train lines and the expansion of cycle paths.

Initiators include the General Association of German Bicycle Club (ADFC), the Association for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND) and the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD).
