Chemnitz (dpa / sn) - At the Chemnitz Regional Court, a lawsuit against millions of dollars in trading in platinum coins begins today.

The accused is one of the main actors of a six-member gang who is said to have evaded sales taxes of almost 16 million euros while trading in the precious metal.

According to the court, the 31-year-old is in custody.

According to the investigators, the defendant was involved in a pan-European fraud system.

Coins were delivered to Germany and sold without paying taxes.

The true origin of the coins is said to have been concealed with the help of bogus invoices.

Further negotiation days are planned for the process until the end of June.
