The latest developments in the candidacy for the Syrian presidential elections

Today, the Syrian People’s Assembly agreed, by majority, to invite some parliaments of countries to accompany the election of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic and to be informed of its course.

The parliaments that will be called to accompany the presidential elections are from Algeria, Oman, Mauritania, Russia, Iran, Armenia, China, Venezuela, Cuba, Belarus, South Africa, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Bolivia.

The President of the Syrian People's Assembly, Hammouda Sabbagh, announced today that 10 new candidacy applications have been submitted to the post of president of the republic by the Supreme Constitutional Court, from Ahmad Ghayath Muhammad Shafiq Sidawi, Tali'a Saleh Nasser, Bashir Muhammad al-Balah, Khaled Issa al-Issa, Fayez Kamal Juha, Wissam al-Din Abdul Rahman Othman and Muhammad Habib Arous And Jabr Mahmoud Khalouf, Moein Ahmed Ibrahim and Hassan Rabie Al-Ruwaili, "bringing the number of candidacy applications to 51.

Sabbagh had announced the opening of candidacy for the presidential elections, in implementation of the provisions of the Syrian constitution, starting on April 19, and applications for candidacy will continue to be submitted to the Supreme Constitutional Court until the end of the official working hours from today, Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
