Mainz (dpa / lrs) - According to the Rhineland-Palatinate psychotherapists, the corona pandemic affects many boys and girls.

"This particularly affects children and adolescents who were previously psychologically stressed, as well as those whose families have little social and financial support," said the President of the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Psychotherapists, Sabine Maur, of the German Press Agency in Mainz.

The inquiries for therapy places and thus the waiting times have increased significantly. "The health insurance companies should create relief here by approving the reimbursement of costs," demanded Maur. Overall, more psychosocial support and relief offers for families are necessary in order to also reduce psychological stress. The Barmer-Krankenkasse today presents its doctor's report on psychotherapeutic treatment.

"In the case of younger children, the parents in particular bear the burden of looking after their own work," said Maur.

"Young people are often burdened by the lack of social interaction, loneliness at home, the loss of a daily structure, problems in the self-organization of homeschooling, the loss of positive activities such as hobbies and sports, as well as fears of illnesses in relatives.

In addition, there are the first children and adolescents who have lost a parent to corona disease.
