Augsburg (dpa / lby) - With shock calls about allegedly life-threatening injured accident victims, con artists in the Augsburg area are trying to exclude concerned relatives.

According to the police, for example, a woman allegedly received a call from the Augsburg University Hospital, according to which her daughter was dying after an accident at work.

The daughter could still be treated, but a drug would have to be flown in from Berlin for 28,000 euros.

The victims of fraud should pay very quickly for this.

According to the university hospital, there were "numerous excited calls" in the clinic on Wednesday from people who had received such fraudulent calls.

A spokeswoman for the university hospital recommended that anyone who receives such “fake calls” should not react and hang up again.

The scam is based on the well-known "grandchildren's trick" calls, in which alleged relatives often also ask for money for alleged emergencies.

The victims of the fraudsters are often very old seniors.

The scam with the alleged calls from the hospital was new in this form, said a spokesman for the police headquarters in Augsburg.
