Munich / Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - In the case of possibly misappropriated ammunition, officials searched two departments of special police units in Augsburg and Nuremberg.

In addition, there was a raid on an apartment, announced the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office and the State Criminal Police Office on Wednesday.

Two police officers from the special forces are suspect.

They are said to have embezzled ammunition brought with them for target practice on a private shooting range in Güstrow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

In addition, the investigators are checking whether other officials from Bavaria acted similarly.

The firing range operator is said to belong to the environment of the right-wing extremist group "Nordkreuz".

According to the announcement, there is currently no evidence that the accused Bavarian police officers are right-wing extremists.

The Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism of the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office (ZET) coordinates the investigations in the Free State.

Further details on the case were initially not disclosed.

At the end of March it became known that a mobile task force of the State Criminal Police Office of Saxony had participated in the shooting training in 2018 without permission and paid for it with at least 7,000 rounds of ammunition from the LKA's stocks.

The commander and three shooting instructors are considered the main suspects and have been suspended from duty.

The other 13 officers were assigned to the Dresden Police Department.

So far it is unclear whether the ammunition or parts of it was used during the training or whether it served as payment and later disappeared in dark channels.
