Munich (dpa) - Oliver Masucci has been awarded the Bavarian Film Prize as best actor - for his roles in the literary film adaptation of “Schachnovelle” and as the legendary director Rainer Werner Fassbinder in “Enfant Terrible”.

The jury in Munich on Wednesday stated that he would bite into his task with a dedication that was overwhelming.

"It's a little bit moved now," said Masucci in a pre-recorded video.

"I'm looking forward to going for a drink now."

Best actress was Nilam Farooq for the comedy film "Contra".

Both prizes are endowed with 10,000 euros each.

The undoped honorary award went to Martina Gedeck (“The Lives of Others”).

Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) presented the 59-year-old with the trophy on Monday in Berlin.

Because of the corona pandemic, the other award winners were also not honored at a gala as usual.

Instead, the award ceremony was recorded and should be shown on Wednesday at 10 p.m. on BR television and in the media library of Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR).

The film award falls at a difficult time when cinemas have been closed for months. That is why some of the winning films have not yet been seen. Sönke Wortmann's “Contra” is due to start in autumn. The comedy “The Boandlkramer and Eternal Love” by the filmmaker Joseph Vilsmaier, who died in 2020, was honored for its screenplay and is due to open on Amazon Prime on May 14th after several postponed theatrical releases. And director award winner Julia von Heinz shows her drama "And tomorrow the whole world" from May 6 on Netflix. She shares the award with Tim Fehlbaum, who received it for his science fiction thriller “Tides”.

Tobias Walker and Philipp Worm received the producer award endowed with 200,000 euros for “Schachnovelle”.

In total, prizes were awarded in 15 categories.

The public film of the decade was the crime comedy «Leberkäsjunkie» in an online vote.

The Bavarian Digital Minister Judith Gerlach (CSU) called the film prize an important signal and a thank you to the film industry.

«The award-winning films can take us into another world, give us suggestions or just make us laugh.

That was never more important than today, ”said Gerlach according to the announcement.
