Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Dresden Music Festival has to give way to the corona pandemic again in the form planned so far.

Originally the festival was supposed to start on May 14th.

If the infection process allows, Intendant Jan Vogler wants to offer a reduced version of the program in June and focus above all on an open-air feeling.

Some highlights of the 44th Festival are also to be made up for in November.

«We thank you for the incredibly enthusiastic support from our audience, our sponsors and partners and our sponsor, the state capital Dresden.

We are fighting for musical encounters in June and hope together with you to be able to experience some unforgettable festival moments in 2021 », explained Vogler.

But even in May, fans don't have to go without musical food from Dresden.

A streaming week begins on May 24, 2021.

To begin with, the Dresden Festival Orchestra under the direction of Daniele Gatti will present a two-part cycle of all symphonies by Robert Schumann, which will also be broadcast on May 25th on MDR Klassik.

The awarding of the “Glashütte Original Music Festival Prize” and the world premiere of the triple concerto “Alisma” for violin, cello and clarinet by Swiss composer William Blank, which is planned for 2020, are also available digitally.

In cooperation with the Musikfest Hamburg, the commissioned work of the Dresden Festival with the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg under the direction of Kent Nagano and the soloists Mira Wang (violin), Jan Vogler (cello) and Daniel Ottensamer (clarinet) will be streamed from the Elbphilharmonie.
