Halle (dpa / sa) - The economy in the south of Saxony-Anhalt is largely pessimistic about the future.

This is the result of the economic survey for the first quarter of 2021 by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Halle-Dessau.

The company's balance sheet after a year of the corona crisis is ambivalent.

"Overall, the economy in the region is not recovering, expectations have not been met," said IHK economic expert Denny Bieräugel on Wednesday.

However, the industry is recovering.

The reason is more orders from abroad.

After a downturn, the construction industry has the prospect of more public contracts.

In contrast, the situation in the service economy is as bad as it was last in 2005, when there was a major structural crisis in the industry, said Bieräugel.

Even in retail, hospitality and the transport industry, the mood is still in the basement in view of the lack of customers and passengers.

Resignation, disappointment and despair prevail in companies.

The background is closings and restrictions due to federal and state ordinances to contain the corona pandemic.

IHK managing director Thomas Brockmeier called for a clear strategy from the federal government on the way out of the crisis, including the greater involvement of company doctors in vaccinating against the corona virus.
