Munich (dpa / lby) - When the children have a cough or the daycare center is closed due to Corona, in Bavaria it is mostly the mothers who report child illness at work instead of the fathers.

According to an evaluation by the health insurance company Barmer, 5774 female insured persons in the Free State received child sickness benefit in the first three months of this year - compared to 2562 male.

The fathers did not even stay away from work half as often, as the state representative of the Barmer announced on Wednesday in Munich.

“The number of applications for child sickness benefit has increased enormously in the past few months. It is mostly the women who take on the care if the children cannot go to daycare or school because of the Corona containment measures, ”explained Barmer country manager Claudia Wöhler. The pandemic once again made the imbalance in many families clear. The mothers insured with Barmer in Bavaria claimed child sickness benefits on 15,647 days and fathers on 6,160 days.

The Federal Council recently extended the entitlement to child sickness benefit again.

In 2021, each parent will receive 30 entitlement days per child up to the age of twelve (maximum 65 days), single parents will receive 60 days per child (maximum 130 days).

This entitlement also applies if the child needs to be looked after because the school or daycare center is closed due to a pandemic or the compulsory attendance has been lifted.
