Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Despite the lockdown and the further increase in corona infections, the Wilhelma Zoological and Botanical Garden in Stuttgart has welcomed visitors for the first time in weeks.

According to the Infection Protection Act, they must have a current negative and official corona rapid test.

"The more cautious we are, the more optimistic the prognosis that this time the opening will last longer," said director Thomas Kölpin.

The park was only open for a short time in March.

On Wednesday, the day of the reopening, 1400 visitors came to the site via the online portal, 4000 bookings would be approved daily.

According to the Wilhelma management, the animal and plant houses will remain closed due to the poor ventilation.

The free-flight aviary and the open-air petting zoo can, however, be visited.
