Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) has underpinned his call for a quick lifting of the vaccination prioritization and plans to no longer have vaccinations carried out only by general practitioners and in vaccination centers.

“In general, we need medical teams who can vaccinate in mobile vaccination stations in supermarkets.

Vaccinations should also be given in pharmacies.

No vaccine must be left lying around, and things have to be done quickly on site - without long waiting times, ”said Söder WELT.

He called for early preparation for the moment when the prioritization falls.

All appointments agreed for the prioritized groups of people were retained.

"But we have to set up all conceivable structures for the time when we get more vaccine."

Vaccinations in supermarkets, restaurants or furniture stores, for example, are not without example.

In countries that currently have a high level of vaccination coverage among the population, such as the USA, Great Britain or Israel, vaccinations were always offered in these unusual places.

Partly in the form of drive-ins, partly through mobile teams.

Söder: Vaccination offer for graduating classes in June

The federal government has announced that it will lift the vaccination prioritization in June.

However, Bavaria wants to go its own way and dare to take the step in May.

At the vaccination summit last Monday, no consensus could be reached on this issue.

However, there are increasing voices among the state heads of government who are calling for faster action.

Since at that moment, however, millions of citizens want to get a vaccination appointment at the same time, the established structures of general practitioners and specialists as well as the vaccination centers are facing a huge challenge.

Söder countered this situation with his request to vaccinate across the board.

“The vaccination turbo takes off when we vaccinate faster and more widely.

It is important that we let the prioritization run out earlier and include more groups, ”said Söder.

The Prime Minister expressly wants to vaccinate young people at an early age.

“It is also particularly important to involve schoolchildren in order to give young people a perspective for more freedom.

Therefore, we want to offer the graduating classes a vaccination offer in June, ”said the CSU boss.

School vaccinations, like company and family vaccinations, have to be an integral part of getting out of the pandemic quickly.

Young people over the age of 16 can currently be vaccinated with the vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer.

A vaccine for children is not yet available.

Corresponding studies are ongoing.

It is expected that under 16-year-olds can also be vaccinated in the summer.

It could take even longer for toddlers.
