Munich (dpa / lby) - To overcome the corona-related isolation and to revive social contacts, this year's holiday program for children in Bavaria is to be expanded further.

In 2021, all children and adolescents from first to tenth grade could take advantage of the offers during the entire Whitsun, summer and autumn holidays.

All children can take part - regardless of whether their parents are still entitled to vacation or not, announced the Bavarian Youth Ring (BJR) on Wednesday in Munich.

Whether and in what form the offers are actually carried out in the end depends on the pandemic. The applicable limit values in accordance with the Infection Protection Ordinance are also a measure here, said a spokesman at the request of dpa. According to the current status, this means that face-to-face events are only allowed with an incidence of 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days - and then with the usual hygiene requirements such as minimum distance and mask requirement. The provision of corona tests is also conceivable. At higher incidences, only online events can then be carried out.

"Children and young people suffer particularly from the corona pandemic," said BJR President Matthias Fack.

The special program could create “urgently needed freedom” for young people.

The program is said to cover various areas from environmental education to creative or sporting activities.

«Children and young people simply need social contact and togetherness.

As well as knowledge transfer and learning from distance learning work now, they will never replace life and experience in school, ”said Minister of Education Michael Piazolo (Free Voters).

The program had already been massively expanded in 2020 due to the pandemic.

There were more than 10,000 places for children in around 870 groups.

The Free State is initially providing 20 million euros for the measures, which will continue into the coming year.

It also includes the continuation of bridging courses for the summer holidays and remedial courses in the core subjects.
